Starting Monster exchange project

For the grade 4 exploratory work has begun on a monster penpal project. We are matched with a school from North Carolina. The activity involves uploading a description of a monster and having the other school draw what they think it looks like. I have the group for 6 weeks should be fun.

ABC ORDER! for 1st grade

This line-up by alphabet order - first name was done after the Monster story: Aphabet Mystery by Audrey and Bruce Wood.

Professional Development for October

The above was on the conference room table on our district PD day. I liked the collection of stones and the ribbon for a tactile experience while sitting in a meeting. Half the day was spent working on prep for the afternoon session. Diane and I were there mostly for moral support of the shared unit plan initiative. I know in the future (November) we will supply more detailed resources and planning. We gathered what we could and sat on the sidelines during tat first. During the breakout session we mostly helped teachers navigate through a variety of links to find info on eBooks, how to use them and how to get my diigo resources in the Teacher Page.

How to create a spirited school

Design an event involving all students.
Schedule it to happen within one week.
Make it a secret, a special surprise for someone.
Get permission from the head of buildings and grounds, better yet get him to help.
Plan it for outdoors.
Allow students to make some noise.
Include a little danger or at least a little rule breaking.
It should take between 10 to 20 minutes from start to finish.

Time Machine Topics

This is the word cloud of the topics the group is interested in. Should be a challenge for them (and me).

Love this idea for limiting seating choices. Shape and color makes it so easy.

TALL tales

The first story for 2nd grade: Johnny Appleseed. Students were quiet and rapt listeners to this quiet poem about the spirit of John Chapman. The DVD with Garrison Keilor's narration a delight.

Bus evacuation drill

This is fun!
